Back this month is "Support Local Spotlight." I want to get you, my reader, more information on various businesses throughout the Brainerd Lakes Area. Who is the person/people behind the scenes of your favorite boutique? Who is running the newest kid's hot spot in town? Have a favorite pizza place? Coffee shop? Toy store? Hopefully you get the idea.
This month's Support Local Spotlight is with Jessica Exe, the woman running “Exellent Creations.” You can check out some of her unique work here! It's my hopes that while reading through this short interview you get a better sense of the person running his or her own small business right here in our community. Look at this joy filled mom with her family.
Macaroni KID: When did your business start?
Jessica Exe: “I started my business, Exellent Creations, in March 2022.”
MK: What got you into your design business?
JE: “My husband owns Upper Lakes Repair and he wanted me to make him business shirts. I made a social media post sharing the business shirts I had made and because of that post I had a lot of people interested in custom shirts. After doing so many shirts I fell in love with designing custom orders for people. From that I became even more creative and began making things other than just shirts.”
MK: What services do you offer?
JE: “I started by only doing custom shirt orders, but now I make a little bit of everything. I make laser cut wood earrings, leather earrings, necklaces, bracelets, beaded wristlets, leather bows, wooden circle signs, wall and door decals, and much more. If you have something in mind that I haven't made before I will try my hardest to make it. If there's a will, there's a way!”

MK: How do you like to express yourself?
JE: “I express myself through communicating. Communication is key! I love to write, listen to music and sing, draw, and to do arts and crafts.”
MK: Do you have a favorite quote, bible verse, or something that inspires you?
JE: “Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.” Every day is a new day, so live like it's your last. Don't dwell on yesterday, today is a new day!”
MK: Name one thing you want to achieve this year or a place you want to visit.
JE: “I want to grow this business more. I made this business to give all of the profit to my daughter’s college fund. My daughter came up with this idea at only 7-years-old and she loves helping me make the items.”
MK: What do you like to do in your free time?
JE: “In my free time I love traveling the world with my husband and four kids.”
