Hey, Macaroni KID readers! How are you? I hope you are well. I myself am sitting here wondering how we are already halfway through the month of January?! Wasn’t it just Christmas? Goodness. Anyways, time has flown by which has got me thinking… what do I want for my family this year? Is it more time together, to visit a new place, continue with a beloved tradition? Always the thinker and planner, I’ve decided to compile a Family Bucket List for 2023. Read on to get encouraged!
1. Have more dance parties– and channel more of that inner confidence that comes from a carefree toddler who is just feeling those beats!
2. Visit a "new to us" place within a 2 hour drive.
3. Bake more, together.
4. Visit a new state. Memories up ahead? Yes, please!
5. Send more snail mail to brighten someone’s day just because.
6. Celebrate more small, everyday moments like: Finish reading 1000 books before kindergarten? Get some ice cream! Toddler “helped” with something new around the house? Go out to a park! Older child scores a goal, does a new gymnastics trick, spells a big word? Come up with a special handshake, thumbs up, or new way to acknowledge their delighted face. It won’t go unnoticed.
7. Pray more, for others.
8. Volunteer in some capacity as a whole family.
9. Do something “messy” at least once a month. I am SO not the mom who enjoys making messes, so I’ll be looking to outside play for this. Or I'll send them to a friend’s house whose mom or dad excels in this area.
10. Support more local businesses.
11. Finish the basement. Perhaps you don’t have a literal basement to finish, but maybe you’ve been wanting to repaint a room, move your garden, rearrange a space. Whatever it is, do it! Time spent at home is meant to be enjoyed, so do what it takes to make it happen.
12. Plant a new vegetable in our garden. And HOPE that is takes. Still working on my green thumb over here.
13. Frequent the farmer’s markets more often.
14. This one is mainly more so for us as the parents but equally important to include in our list: laugh off more of the “little” things and repeat the mantra “this too shall pass” as often as necessary.
15. Do more while buying less.
16. Go to a children’s museum. Delight in their faces as they PLAY!
17. Get family photos taken.
18. Go to a drive-in movie theater.
19. Go on more dates– both for us as parents as well as one on one dates with each of our kids.
20. Try something new each month. As a stay at home parent, I value our time at home, but I also know we live in a great community and I look forward to checking out new events or activities happening right here. I hope you will, too!
So, how about you? Can you relate? I hope reading through this list inspires YOU to make your own family bucket list for 2023. Even more so, I hope you actually do the things you set out to do! I'm cheering you on.
