A new "Support Local Spotlight" is here for your enjoyment. I want to get you, my reader, more information on various businesses throughout the Brainerd Lakes Area. Who is the person/people behind the scenes of your favorite boutique? Who is running the newest kid's hot spot in town? Have a favorite pizza place? Coffee shop? Toy store? Hopefully you get the idea.

This month's "Support Local Spotlight" is with Dr. Amanda Plevell, the owner and operator of “ANMC Holistic Health.” It's my hopes that while reading through this short article you get a better sense of the person running his or her own small business right here in our community.

Dr. Amanda Plevell is a board-certified natural health practitioner, PhD, CNHP, MSCN, CNS and she owns and operates ANMC Holistic Health in Little Falls, MN. Amanda is also an author; she has published more than 26 books. She is an amazing educator and generally touches on topics like anxiety, how foods function in the body, and how to eat well in a way that’s easy to understand and live by. Having received dozens of degrees in all areas of life, she has formed a vision where we lead the world in changing how we see people, illness, wellbeing, and the treatment of disease.

Amanda has a wealth of knowledge and tips to share. To some these tips may seem elementary, but very ground breaking for most others, so it's very important to talk about all of these foundational health, nutrition, and lifestyle changes. Best of all, Amanda has done a fantastic job of teaching all those bits of knowledge to those that work alongside her. This allows us to share these nuggets of information with more people, achieving our mission:

We Cause Health by providing a method of proactivity, relationship, and education to truly support people in well being-creating communities where it’s easy to be healthy, and okay to be happy.

One question we get asked is how did ANMC Holistic Health come to fruition? Interestingly, Amanda thought she was going to be a wandering artist, musician.

There was a series of events that changed everything. It started off with her own health challenges. At 26, Amanda received a diagnosis for an autoimmune disorder, and even though she did all the right things; followed conventional wisdom, knowing that there's a time and place for everything- it just wasn't what was working for her body. That's when Amanda started taking a look at food. Following that, it was several years of challenges.

“That just culminated into this giant challenge that was going to define who I was going to be for the rest of my life, and it was when one of those typical, normal, regular conventional protocols went very wrong in me and I ended up in a wheelchair without an idea of understanding of why? What happened? What was wrong with my body? Then, the prognosis was that I probably wasn't going to walk again. To which end, we revamped our house, made all these changes assuming that I was going to be in a wheelchair forever. As you can imagine, that changed a lot of things for me.”

“It wasn't just the pain that I was going through or the new idea that I had to deal with because it was not great for a while. I was flown in a helicopter to the cities. I left earth for a few minutes, but was brought back. I had multiple, very dangerous experiences and it just changed how I looked at life in general. I did not start doing any of this due to any of my degrees, my education, nothing! It was out of desperation and needing to know what to do for myself and then I was learning, which got me excited and I was feeling this love and light come up out of me.”

Realizing, this was helping people, Amanda just wanted to keep getting better in order to understand and gain more knowledge. Finding that there was something more within, and by learning from those experiences, she wrote three of her books while in a wheelchair.

“Understanding it wasn't just my legs, nor the myopathy or neuropathy. It's definitely one of those little divine links- it clarified for me what kind of suffering was out there, what kind of misunderstanding, what kind of lack of self-love was out there, what kind of injury we were doing to each other out there and so much more. I just came to a deeper compassionate understanding for myself and for what was needed in the world. All of a sudden I just knew that beyond a shadow of a doubt this is what I was here to do and that I was called to do that and to share that love and to help people see the value in themselves and to put their pieces together and to help in connecting the threads.

Here at ANMC we are just helping you pull the threads back together. We immerse you into this functional wellness that really puts you on the right path to heal yourself. It gives a purpose and a deeper awareness into how there's a function. We teach our clients about functional foods because there is a function and purpose that is being served by those foods, there is a function that is being served by the experiences you had to go through. Keeping in mind we have an acute need for medicine at different times in our life; it's great that conventional medicine exists.

We're creating an environment conducive for a good life, to your health, we strive to help you in creating an environment where health is just the natural outcome. Not only to teach but kind of introduce and help people organize and put strategies in place that are purposeful and intentional towards their goals. We walk alongside our clients, to help them practice and deal with the challenges in life.

Above all, we are mindful of OUR ripple effect. At our core we pay close attention to the relationships with our clients, getting to know them and their needs, acting as a guide and truly caring about our clients as individuals is primary. Our clients can trust us implicitly due to our commitment to discretion and honesty. With an innovative mind we look for expansion and stay on the leading edge of how we can meet the needs of our clients and our world positively. We live in a perpetual state of possibility. We are solution rather than problem focused. At ANMC we act, serve, and develop as leaders. We lead by example and embody the character traits of true leaders. For this is our ripple effect.
